About Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen is situated on the shores of the Caribbean in the heart of the Riviera Maya. “PDC” is perhaps the most charming, quaint town in Mexico. It is a center of boutique hotels, international restaurants, dazzling nightlife and a huge array of markets and stalls. All of this is nestled comfortably on the white sand and turquoise water of the Caribbean sea. Some of the well known landmarks are the famed 5th Avenue for shopping and eating, the pier, where ferries depart to Cozumel, the “Mexican” Juarez Avenue, Colossio and at times a luxury cruise ship anchored off the beach when the lights on the ship are turned on at night illuminating the entire skyline.

PDC is, by most standards, a quiet town with an edgy side, its nightlife. Many couples and singles can be seen in the wee hours of the morning, going home from clubs for a few hours sleep before they “hit the beach”. The nightlife in PDC is often described as one of the best in this part of the world. Sometimes, the whole town marks certain events, such as Carnival, Navidad, Easter and other holidays, with parades, fireworks, endless parties, and throngs of people on Fifth Avenue. The festivals seem endless.

PDC’s tranquility stems from the “laissez faire” Mexican culture which is exemplified by the slower pace of life and the many smiles awaiting your arrival. Learn some Spanish, bring your swim suit (or part of it), and relax among the whistling palms and gentle waters of the Caribbean while you sip on a piña colada or cerveza.
